Setting up several Macs

Make a note of which key is used on which Mac. Download the installation package once and copy it to the other devices via USB stick or network drive. Then all you need to do on each Mac is start Word and enter the key.

Working with Windows users

Office 2019 for Mac saves in the same formats as Office for Windows. Documents, spreadsheets and presentations can be exchanged without conversion, and comments and tracked changes are preserved. On the Mac you usually use the Command key (⌘) instead of the Ctrl key; otherwise the ribbon and features are largely the same.

Office 2019 or a newer version?

Office 2019 is a proven perpetual licence and has been the standard for years in many companies, schools and clubs. If you work with colleagues or customers who use Office 2019, you get the same interface, the same menus and the same features. On top of that, Office 2019 Standard for Mac (1–5 users) is the most affordable way to get a full Microsoft Office without a subscription.

If you need features such as XLOOKUP or dynamic arrays in Excel, choose Office 2021 for Mac or Office 2024 for Mac. The file formats are the same in all three versions, so documents can be exchanged without any problems.

Buy once instead of subscribing

Microsoft 365 costs money every year. Office 2019, by contrast, you pay for once, and the programs stay on your Mac permanently. For many users who mainly write letters, maintain spreadsheets and create presentations, this is the most economical solution – especially when several devices need to be equipped. You save your files as usual locally, on the network or with a cloud provider of your choice.
