File formats and compatibility

Excel 2016 saves in XLSX format, workbooks with macros as XLSM. You can also open files from newer Excel versions; only formulas with new functions such as XLOOKUP are not calculated in Excel 2016. You import CSV files via the “Data” tab, and for LibreOffice users you save as ODS.

Excel 2016 in business

Many small businesses use Excel to calculate quotes, track outstanding items or analyse sales by month. With the waterfall chart you show at a glance how income and expenditure are made up, and the forecast sheet calculates a preview for the coming months from previous figures.

When is Excel 2016 on its own worthwhile?

Excel 2016 as a standalone program is a good fit if a workstation works almost exclusively with Excel – for example in accounting, controlling or for the household budget. It is also a good addition if other Office programs of the same generation are already installed on a computer and only Excel is missing.

Standalone program or Office suite?

The standalone program is the most affordable solution if you mainly work with Excel. If you need more programs later, an Office suite is usually cheaper than several standalone programs.

Installation and activation

1. Download the installation file using the link in our e-mail.
2. Start the setup and follow the installation. Uninstall older versions of the same program first.
