Microsoft Excel 2013 for Windows – spreadsheets with a perpetual licence
Excel 2013 is the standalone program for calculations, budgets and analyses. You receive Excel permanently for one Windows PC, without a subscription.
Flash Fill in Excel 2013 saves a lot of typing: Excel recognises patterns and fills entire columns automatically.
Typical uses
- household budget and financial planning
- Calculations and quotes for the self-employed
- Analyses with PivotTables and charts
- Importing CSV data from online banking and shop systems
What Excel 2013 offers
- Flash Fill completes columns automatically based on a recognised pattern
- Quick Analysis for charts, totals and formatting
- Recommended charts and recommended PivotTables
- Timelines for filtering by date
- Each workbook in its own window
Tips for everyday Excel
- Format as Table: ranges grow automatically and filters are available instantly.
- PivotTables: summarise large amounts of data by month or customer in seconds.
- Conditional formatting: highlight overdue invoices in colour.
- Data validation: drop-down lists prevent typing errors.
- VLOOKUP: fetch prices or addresses automatically from a second list.
File formats and compatibility
Excel 2013 saves in XLSX format, workbooks with macros as XLSM. You can also open files from newer Excel versions; only formulas with new functions such as XLOOKUP are not calculated in Excel 2013. You import CSV files via the “Data” tab, and for LibreOffice users you save as ODS.
Excel 2013 in business
A typical office task: a list with “Surname, First name” is to be split into two columns. In Excel 2013 you type the first example and Flash Fill does the rest. With Quick Analysis you select a range and are immediately offered suitable charts and totals.
When is Excel 2013 on its own worthwhile?
Excel 2013 as a standalone program is a good fit if a workstation works almost exclusively with Excel – for example in accounting, controlling or for the household budget. It is also a good addition if other Office programs of the same generation are already installed on a computer and only Excel is missing.
Standalone program or Office suite?
The standalone program is the most affordable solution if you mainly work with Excel. If you need more programs later, an Office suite is usually cheaper than several standalone programs.
| Excel 2013 (this item) | spreadsheets only |
| Office 2013 Home & Student | Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote |
| Office 2013 Professional Plus | all programs including Access |
You will find more editions under Microsoft Office 2013.
Excel 2013 or a newer version?
Version 2013 is lean, runs quickly even on older PCs and has the clear interface on which all newer versions are based. If you want the latest features, choose Excel 2021 or Excel 2024. The file formats have been the same since Office 2007, so files can be exchanged without any problems.
Buy once instead of subscribing
You pay for Excel 2013 once and use it permanently – with no contract term, no notice period and no forced cloud use. You save your files as usual locally, on your network or with a cloud provider of your choice.
