What is Windows 10 Enterprise N LTSC 2019?

LTSC stands for “Long-Term Servicing Channel” (formerly LTSB). These editions receive no feature upgrades and stay at the same state for many years. The Microsoft Store, most preinstalled apps and advertising tiles are deliberately missing. This makes LTSC the first choice for computers that are to run unchanged and reliably for a long time: point-of-sale systems, machine controls, medical and laboratory equipment, kiosk PCs or control rooms.

Compared with the LTSB editions, LTSC 2019 brings Windows Defender Application Guard, improved security and support for newer hardware, among other things.

What does “N” mean?

N editions are intended for the European market and are supplied without preinstalled media playback: Windows Media Player, Films & TV and some related features are missing. Everything else corresponds to the normal edition. If you do need the media features, install Microsoft’s free Media Feature Pack or use a player such as VLC.

Well prepared for installation

Before a clean installation, back up your documents, pictures, emails and browser bookmarks to an external drive or the cloud. Note down the login details and licence keys of your programs. If possible, download your PC’s network drivers in advance – so you are back online immediately after installation. Depending on the computer, a clean installation takes about 20 to 60 minutes.

32 or 64 bit?

On computers with more than 4 GB of memory you should install the 64-bit version so that all the memory is used. The 32-bit version only makes sense for very old computers or special older programs. You select the right variant when creating the installation medium.

• Create user accounts and use an account without administrator rights for everyday use

No, LTSB/LTSC does not include a Store. You install programs the classic way using installation files.

If a machine, a device or software is approved for exactly this state, you should stay with this version. For new projects we recommend LTSC 2021 or Windows 11 LTSC 2024.
