Buy PDF & Text Recognition Software – PDF Editor & OCR Licences

PDF is the universal document format in today's office – and professional PDF software is far more than a simple viewer. From creating and editing PDFs and adding digital signatures to powerful OCR text recognition that converts scanned paper documents into editable text – professional PDF and text recognition software is part of the digital basics of every productive workplace. As part of our Office Organisation section, Lizenzindustrie offers leading PDF and OCR software as verified licences with a licence key by email – at prices far below the recommended retail price.

What can professional PDF software do?

The difference between a free PDF viewer and professional PDF software is fundamental. A viewer displays PDFs – professional PDF software turns PDFs into fully fledged, editable working documents:

Create PDFs – from any application: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, websites, images and more. One click on "Print" with the PDF printer, and any document becomes a professional PDF.

Edit PDFs – edit text, images, page layout and metadata in existing PDFs directly. Correct typos and content errors in PDFs you receive without having to request the original document.

Annotate and highlight PDFs – highlight passages, add comments, apply stamps and insert handwritten notes. Ideal for collaborative document review in teams.

Sign PDFs digitally – add a legally valid digital signature to documents. No more printing, signing by hand and scanning – fully digital and legally valid.

Merge PDFs – combine several separate PDF documents into a single PDF. Reorder, delete, rotate and rearrange pages.

Split PDFs – split large PDFs into smaller documents, extract individual pages or save specific page ranges as separate files.

Convert PDFs – convert PDFs into editable Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other formats – for further editing in other applications.

Protect PDFs – add password protection to PDFs, restrict editing and printing rights and use redaction features to make sensitive content permanently illegible.

What is OCR text recognition and why is it so valuable?

OCR – optical character recognition – is one of the most important digitalisation technologies in everyday office life. OCR automatically recognises printed text in scanned documents, photos and image PDFs and converts it into fully editable, full-text searchable text.

The added value is immediate: without OCR, a scanned contract, a scanned invoice or a photographed form is just an image – not searchable, not editable, not processable. With OCR it becomes a fully fledged digital document – the text can be copied, edited, transferred into other systems and searched in full.

For offices with a large volume of incoming paper – law firms, tax advisers, doctors' surgeries, public authorities, insurance companies – high-quality OCR software brings an enormous gain in productivity. Instead of typing documents up manually, you simply scan them and the OCR software takes care of text recognition automatically.

The most important PDF & OCR software solutions at a glance

  • Adobe Acrobat – Adobe developed the PDF format, and Acrobat is the best-known name in the PDF software industry. Acrobat offers the most complete PDF feature set – from simple editing to advanced form and signature workflows. Today Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro are mainly available on subscription, with older versions in some cases still available as perpetual licences. The best-known – but also one of the most expensive – PDF solutions on the market.
  • ABBYY FineReader – ABBYY FineReader is regarded as one of the leading solutions in the professional OCR segment – known for its exceptional text recognition, which reliably handles even difficult originals such as faded prints and multilingual documents. FineReader combines first-class OCR with full PDF editing functionality – ideal for offices with a high need for digitalisation.
  • Kofax Power PDF – Kofax Power PDF (now under the Tungsten Automation brand) is a powerful and economical alternative to Adobe Acrobat with a full range of PDF editing features, solid OCR and an intuitive user interface. Particularly attractive for businesses looking for full PDF functionality at a considerably lower price than Acrobat.
  • Nuance Power PDF – Nuance Power PDF is the predecessor of Kofax Power PDF: the product line was sold to Kofax in 2019. Older Nuance versions also offer a full PDF feature set, integrated OCR and seamless Microsoft Office integration.
  • PDF24 – PDF24 is a free PDF solution (online and as a desktop program) for simple PDF tasks. For professional requirements we recommend paid solutions with a full feature set and GDPR-compliant local processing.

PDF software or OCR software – what do I need?

The decision depends on your specific use case:

Mainly editing and creating PDFs: If you mainly want to create, edit, merge, sign and convert PDFs, full PDF software such as Adobe Acrobat or a lower-cost alternative such as Kofax Power PDF is the right choice.

Mainly digitalising paper documents: If you regularly want to digitalise large quantities of scanned documents and convert them into editable text, ABBYY FineReader, with its superior OCR quality, is the most recommendable solution.

Both equally: ABBYY FineReader PDF offers both first-class OCR and full PDF editing features in one product – ideal for offices with both requirements. If you would rather dictate text than type it, you will also find suitable solutions under speech recognition.

Frequently asked questions about PDF & text recognition software

What is the difference between Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro?

Adobe Acrobat Standard offers all the basic PDF features – creating, editing, annotating, signing and converting. Acrobat Pro adds advanced features such as creating and editing PDF forms, advanced redaction, comparing two versions of a PDF and accessibility tools. For most office users, Standard is entirely sufficient.

How accurate is modern OCR text recognition?

Modern OCR software such as ABBYY FineReader achieves very high recognition accuracy with high-quality scans. With difficult originals – faded prints, poor scan quality, handwritten text – accuracy is lower. For the best OCR results we recommend a scanning resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Can I edit scanned PDFs directly in Word?

Yes – with OCR software such as ABBYY FineReader. FineReader automatically recognises the text in scanned PDFs and can export it directly to an editable Word document – with the layout largely preserved, including tables, columns and formatting.

Are digital signatures on PDFs legally valid?

Yes – digital PDF signatures are legally valid in Germany and the EU. Qualified electronic signatures (QES) have the same legal standing as handwritten signatures. For simple business documents, simple and advanced digital signatures are also sufficient and legally recognised. The finished documents can then be edited further in Microsoft Word.

How quickly will I receive my licence key?

Delivery by email is automatic as soon as your payment has been confirmed. Subsequent activation via the manufacturer's official servers takes just a few minutes.
